The Attachment Network meets three times a year and is comprised of representatives from health and social service agencies interested in promoting and enhancing secure attachment across the life span by sharing knowledge of best practices, promoting attachment based interventions, and by fostering a coordinated approach of attachment based services, training and research.

The Network aims to host an annual conference on attachment for practitioners, to fund initiatives that will further the capacity of practitioners using attachment based interventions, and to provide access to speakers.

Vision

A child’s secure attachment to at least one caregiver is the foundation of healthy human development. For this reason, the importance of attachment should be understood and seen as an integral part of being human. Mission

Its activities include:

• education,
• dissemination of information,
• networking, and
• advocacy.

The goals of the Attachment Network of Belgium include:

• sharing knowledge of best practices,
• promoting access to attachment-based theory, assessment tools, interventions and treatment, and
• facilitating a coordinated approach to the organization of attachment-based services and training within the province of Brussels.

In light of these goals, the Network will meet three times per year with additional meetings for special focus sub-committees; will aim to host an annual conference; will provide funds for initiatives that further develop the capacity of our communities regarding attachment; and will publish a newsletter. Who is the Attachment Network of Greece?

The Attachment Network is a multi-organizational committee that is comprised of representatives from various sectors, including health, justice, education, and social services, who are interested in promoting and enhancing secure attachment across the life span.

Providing Adolescents with a Secure Base: An Attachment Perspective
According to John Bowlby, the developer of attachment theory, “No concept within the attachment framework is more central to developmental psychiatry than that of the secure base.” The focus of most research and clinical attention related to the secure base concept has been on infancy and early childhood. Much less attention has been devoted to this idea during adolescence, despite the fact that adolescence is a developmental period that some researchers consider “a second sensitive period.”

Dr. Angelopoulos will introduce the secure base/safe haven construct and its evolutionary underpinnings, discuss why adolescents continue to need a secure base, describe adolescent secure base use and parental secure base provision, present videos of secure and insecure adolescent-parent interactions, and provide a clinical perspective on helping parents of adolescents think about secure base provision, with consideration of the role of both parental and adolescent emotion regulation.
