HOW IT WORKS
Vancouver Coastal Health
Vancouver Coastal Health, in partnership with the Powell River Division of Family Practice, is now offering additional COVID-19 testing at a new clinic located on the upper level of the Powell River Recreation Complex.
The assessment clinic is now open Monday to Friday from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Located on the upper level of the recreation complex, the assessment clinic is being used to increase the capacity of physicians and nurse practitioners to safely see patients for in-person appointments. Medical offices are limited in the number of patients they can safely see in person because of the guidelines they are required to follow to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The Complex Clinic provides an extra, clean, and safe space to see patients who need an in-person appointment for any health care need. Family doctors and nurse practitioners can refer patients to the clinic. The clinic is NOT open to walk-in appointments or for self-referral.
If your doctor/nurse practitioner has made an appointment for you to be seen at the Complex Clinic, this is what to expect:

When you arrive at the Recreation Complex you can park in the upper parking lot (the one used for Kings’ games). Enter via the doors marked Entrance Only (next to the big white tent). Put on a mask and sanitize your hands as you come through the door. Notice the floor markings which show where to walk.
Your assessment will be conducted by a local doctor or nurse practitioner in an exam room on the upper floor of the Complex. This area is cordoned off from the rest of the Complex and has been designed to ensure the safety of everyone who uses it.
Once your appointment is complete the doctor/nurse practitioner will advise you on next steps, if required. Leave the assessment area following the floor markings that show where you should walk. Leave the building through the door marked EXIT.
You’re done! Your own family physician or nurse practitioner will follow-up with you for further care needs.
I do not have a referral, but I would like to get assessed. What do I do?
A referral from a doctor or nurse practitioner is required for an appointment at the Assessment Clinic. If you are having respiratory symptoms and need to be assessed, please contact your doctor or nurse practitioner for guidance.
If you don’t have a primary care provider and you would like to get connected to one:

What do I need to bring with me?
Please bring your health card and one piece of identification.
Can I come into the Clinic accompanied by someone else?
Unless you require assistance please come into to the Complex Clinic on your own. Parents may accompany children into the clinic.
What are the next steps after my assessment?
Please follow the advice provided by your physician or nurse practitioner during your appointment.

What safety measures have been put in place to ensure that this Complex Clinic is a safe environment for me to come to?
The upper floor of the Recreation Complex is being dedicated to the Complex Clinic to ensure that this is a controlled environment where doctors and nurse practitioners can safely see patients. The Complex Clinic has been specially designed and set up to ensure the safety of everyone who uses it.
Is it safe to go to the Recreation Complex for other activities (e.g. to play hockey?)
Yes, it is safe. The operation of the Complex Clinic will occur on the entire upper level of the Recreation Complex and an infection prevention and control safety plan has been implemented to ensure the safety of all users of the Recreation Complex. Programming offered on the lower level of the Recreation Complex will not be impacted.
Where can I enter the Recreation Complex for recreational purposes (i.e. not for medical purposes)?
When visiting the Recreation Complex for recreational purposes please use the west entrance on the back side of the complex (near the pool).
